Those of us for whom Stainless Steel is the cold rail at the new mall are in for a surprise. SS, as the trade calls it, is not just that or a flashback to World War II, it is the name of the new kid on the block. In industry it is hard, it is austere, it is clinical, and it can take a lot of stress. In jewellery, it is transformed. It hides its humble origins and flaunts its shine, or its satin-brushed looks as stars and models wear it down red carpets. It poses well in its new-found glory, cooler than ever, but not in degrees, at least not those of the temperature type. SS is all looks, all celebrity, all trend. In jewellery, SS is not hard, it is Strong, character-strong.
